Sandy Starkman Sundress

Now, if you are not shaped like a supermodel dressing yourself for the hot summer months can be tough, especially in thin sheer, barely there fabrics. You don’t want to dress in lots of skimpy clothes but at the very same time you don’t want to bake in the heat and perspire in the humidity!

So, here are my top 4 tips for looking and feeling good this summer:

1. Thin Fabrics – Choosing a thin breathable material will make you feel an awful lot cooler and thereby comfortable. A pretty linen skirt or blouse will show your feminine side while keeping you cool and confident. I would also invest in a couple of pairs on linen trousers to see you through the summer months as they are great casual clothing that fits in with endless different events. Another great option are some of the wonderful gauze and thin cotton tops, bottoms and dresses available that are so lightweight you barely feel them on. Available in just about every shape and color in the rainbow, you can really express your own personal style!

2. Casual Cardigans – Casual cardigans give you the chance to cover yourself up during the occasional colder evenings. They look brilliant with a sleeveless, close fitting top underneath, offering the warmth and camouflage of arm coverage. I also love that a cardigan allows you to have it halfway closed to cover your stomach yet show off your other assets.

3. Pretty Flip flops – A couple of pretty flip flops is a very cheap purchase yet they will last all summer and beyond. They look fun and light hearted with a pair of jeans or shorts and will go with a nice skirt or casual pants. Some of my more creative customers have gotten a hot glue gun and jewel stones from their local craft shop and really “done up” their flip flops for a dressier look. This allows them to maintain the comfort of a flat for a fraction of the price of what they would have paid for a comparable shoe from a shoe store.

4. White Swimwear Cover Up – This is a must if you are planning on visiting an outdoor pool or the beach. It is basically a large over shirt made from a material that will dry quickly. I prefer white as it reflects the sun helping keep you cool and doesn’t really fade. You can get them in all kinds of styles including the type that cover up most of your arms and legs for good sun protection. Also, when we are on the beach, some of us can get very self conscious about our shape and this is the perfect solution.

Whatever your shape, there is literally something for everyone! I recommend buying great basics that keep you cool and comfortable and can be mixed and matched into five or six outfits that can have you looking your best this summer.
