The Secret To Buying the Best Plus Size Jeans

NYDJs Plus Size Jeans w/Magdelena Wrap Top
We all remember the jeans that needed kidnapping by the fashion police in years gone by and thankfully we have had a vast improvement since then. If I am completely honest, the variety available today is truly amazing – there is literally something for everyone.
My personal favorite for the plus size lady is the bootcut variety as it creates a lovely balance of proportion to most shapes, usually making you look slimmer. When you wear bootcut jeans, they look amazing with something simple like a pair of flip flops and a smart top. You can also dress them up with a fun tunic that is the perfect color for your complexion and get people talking about how lovely you look. Jeans look good with just about any color in your closet!
All women that dress “their best” are trying to take the attention elsewhere than their “trouble” spots. So, if you are plus size and have the weight mainly around your tummy and thighs, you could dress to concentrate others’ attention on your top half and lower legs. If you’re a shoe addict this is the perfect time for you to bring your collection out and show the world what you are all about. Wear some lovely peep toe sandals and give yourself a lovely pedicure. A nice top that fits close to the frame up high and then starts to flare just before the tummy will form an A-line –this shape is a great style for women with tiny top halves and fuller hips and thighs.
One of the harder jeans for most plus size women to pull off is the skinny jean. They usually only work for women with fabulous legs and a smaller shoulder frame, who carry all their weight in their waist and stomach area. Then, an attractive top used to camouflage the midsection can help create a slim all over look. However, if you have heavy thighs and very full calves, these types of jeans will draw attention to the wrong part of your body, creating a less attractive silhouette.
Jeans should always be thought of as a long term investment! Choose the right ones – and you will have them in your closet for many years. I would always class jeans as being rather plain and that is what is so good about them. They can suit more or less any occasion and with the right mixture of tops and/or accessories and will keep you looking current and attractive.
Next time you’re shopping, play up your best features with jeans and you will see wonderful results.

You’re so right… I LOVE to wear jeans, and I think I look better in them than in any other kind of pant or skirt.
I love to wear them on my days off with more casual (but colorful) tops, and dress them up a bit on Sundays at church. (We have a fairly casual dress code at church, which is great, because who wants to wear work clothes on thier days off? I don’t !
I would add the comment that most plus size women need a high rise jean. After all, we’re not exaclty likely to wear a top that ends at our waist, so what does it matter if they’re not the trendy low rise? What’s more important is how our tummy looks under our shirt, not how it looks without a shirt! (Unless you’re a jeans model, but that’s another story

Laura,
YOU are so right! High rise jeans offer tummy support making those shirts hang nicely over the tummy. Low rise jeans usually create the “muffin-top” look which is really, really unflattering! Thanks for sharing this important extra piece of advice!
